This one, from 1996, is a massive-sounding guitar that's almost impossible to put down once you plug it in. Loaded with some absolutely massive Seymour Duncan SH-55 pickups, this guitar has a huge range of tones from warm and bluesy to searing rock.  Every time I pick it up and play, I play better (I'm sure that's true!).

The Evertune was professionally fitted by Charles Cilia of Cilia Guitars Australia and has the guitar has recently undergone a full set-up and re-fretting. 

It can be set up for any tuning from E-Standard down to Drop B.

Guitar comes in an Epiphone Hard Case with spare set of strings and can be picked up from Leytonstone or arranged for pickup at Bank Station.

One of the absolute classics.  A 1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Alpine White, famous in the hands of anyone from Lyndsey Buckingham, Steve Jones, Randy Rhoads, and Mick Jones, through to James Dean Bradfield, who has played his 1990 Les Paul Custom for more than 30 years with the Manic Street Preachers.

An absolute beauty to behold: gold hardware, multi-layered binding to the headstock and body top/back, ebony fretboard, low frets, and a generous application of mother-of-pearl to the headstock and fretboard.  And plays beautifully,  Lovely natural resonance from all of that wood, beautiful tone in clean mode, roaring sustain in overdrive, incredible speed from the low fretted neck.

Also, at the lower end of weight for a Les Paul, coming in at just under 10 lbs (a sign of high quality wood!).

Gibson's J-160E, famous in the hands of both John Lennon and George Harrison - and the ambidextrous Paul McCartney.  The acoustic behind so many of those early Beatles hits - and a fair few famous guitarists since then.  An absolute original, and a beauty to behold and play. 

This one's from 1963, the year after John and George bought their first J-160Es.  The same build and spec.  Totally original, nice slim neck and low set-up, electrics all working perfectly.

It does bear the dents and scratches that you'd expect from a guitar that's over 55 years old, but just sounds superb, whether plugged in or purely acoustic.

Something special, this one.   Produced in 2000, the first and best Gibson Gary Moore Signature, complete with unbelievable Burstbucker pick-ups.  A signature model Gary often played live himself.

An absolute beauty to look at - that Lemonburst finish just glows.

The distinctive zebra-pattern neck pick-up is not just for looks.  The pick-up is reversed to create an out-of-phase effect when the toggle switch is set to dual-pick-up mode.  This mimics the out-of-phase effect of the Peter Green 59 Les Paul Gary was famous for (and now owned by Kirk Hammett of Metallica).

The Burstbuckers produce a lovely full tone in clean mode and, when overdriven, give you all you want to reproduce the scream & sustain that Gary Moore was famous for.

A very special guitar for hire: Katrina & The Waves' guitarist/songwriter Kimberley Rew's 1989 Gibson SG '62 Reissue. Not only that, but the guitar he used on the recording of Katrina & The Waves' winning anthem, "Love Shine A Light" - the last time the UK won Eurovision. 

Bought new by Kimberley in 1992, this model is from the first few production years of Gibson's now well-trodden classic reproduction lines. The one-piece mahogany neck and body, the early 60's super-slim, super-fast neck, the reduced footprint of the scratchplate, and the choice of subtler nickel hardware over chrome. 

Whether it's because you like Eurovision, Katrina & The Waves, or an absolutely classic Gibson SG, this guitar delivers. A superb recreation of those early glory years, totally living up to the super-fast playability that has bewitched rock gods ever since.

Not just eye-catching for its colour, this is also the ultimate stripped-down, high-performance Flying V.  A single Gibson humbucker pick-up at the bridge, a single Volume knob, a Steinberger KB-X Tremolo, an extended scale length (25.5"). And, holy grail of holy grails, 24 frets, with unrestricted access all the way up to the 24th fret. 

The V '90s came in Nuclear Yellow or High-Gloss Black. The colour is rightly named Nuclear Yellow . . . this one would light up a stadium in the dark.  The Steinberger KB-X Tremolo works exactly and accurately, come dive or climb, with no change in intonation on return to open tuning.  Thoughtfully for the over-active guitarist, you can always play it sitting down, thanks to the flip-out Steinberger Balance Rest on the underside.  

In good condition for its age, with some light nicks and lacquer cracking. Professionally set up and tested and great to rock out with.

A rare piece of space-age technical genius, the Vox V251 Guitar Organ - the first of that rare crossover, built by putting the circuits of a Vox Continental organ into the body of a Vox Phantom guitar.

First and foremost, it is a guitar.  Six strings, a couple of perfectly matched single-coils, a 3-way pick-up switch, and a lovely smooth tremolo for some beautiful shimmer.  Sounds great. 

But it's the organ that makes this unique, and unlocks the fun.  The strings become the "keys", activating the correct pitch when pressed to the fretboard.  The open-string push-buttons allow you to bring in the open notes when needed.  You can change the pitch of the guitar across four octaves, and go from church organ to space-age oboe or flute at the flick of a switch.  And you can add a more percussive delay effect to your chords, just by holding them down.

Not a gigging guitar.  It's an absolute beauty though, so perfect for a very unique photo or video shoot.   And, if you're a studio- or home-based sonic explorer, this is just brilliant.  Of course, it takes a little time to get used to it, but you'd have to expect that given what a ground-breaking piece of technology it is.

Beautiful Cherry Red Epiphone EA-250, one of the earliest guitars to come out of the Matsumoku plant, when Gibson transferred all Epiphone build out of the US to Japan in 1970.

Looks-wise, this guitar's got it all.  That beautiful Cherry Red body, contrasting perfectly with the natural maple neck, the 6-layer body top binding, the 3-layer fretboard binding, squat 60s style headstock, mother-of-pearl inlays, the Bigsby-esque tremolo, with carved wooden harp insert, and those uniquely sized humbuckers (something between a humbucker and a P-90), already retro-style by the early 70s.

These guitars have a bit of a reputation for poor playability.  But I've had the work done to restore that playability.  Now, a lovely sounding thinline guitar.  Those humbuckers have buckets of warmth and response - and sustain just the right side of feedback as you push the volume up.

Has the dents and nicks you'd expect from a guitar that's nearly 50 years old, but plays and sounds great.

New 8-string Ibanez guitar with (2x) 808X EMG humbuckers for incredible sound output. Never been used for playing, just for testing. .10 Dunlop string gauge for better results between frequencies. If you want to buy, I am open for negotiations. It comes with hard case for protection and secure trips.

A beauty of a 335.  A 1977 Walnut model, with rare coil-tap switch.  The exact model Johnny Marr played when The Smiths got together for the first time, to record demos of Handsome Devil, What Difference Does It Make? and Miserable Lie.  Check out Johnny's autobiography, Set The Boy Free, for the picture, and story behind those first sessions.

Super-narrow neck, the narrowest Gibson ever produced for an ES-335.  A joy to play.

Comes loaded with its original Bill Lawrence designed Super Humbucking pickups, which Gibson included in SGs and ES-335s predominantly from the early-70s to mid-80s.  Also known as "Tarbacks" in reference to the black epoxy resin that was used to encase the pick-up, these were Gibson's inaugural "hot" pick-ups.  Probably not so hot by comparison with what's on the market today, but pioneering at the time.  Great warm tone, not too bright, perfect with a cranked amp.

This one has had some playing, with a very distinctive wearing of the lacquer on the back of the neck - cleaned and repolished, but not refinished, in honour of its history in the hands of devoted guitarists.  Plays great.  Sounds great.  And perfect for getting your fingers around What Difference Does It Make?

A perfect recreation of the Montgomery Ward Airline J. B. Hutto Res-O-Glass that Jack White made so famous with The White Stripes. 

Built with loving care by Eastwood Guitars, this is a first run production model from 2005, shortly after they acquired the rights to the Airline model. An absolute beauty in perfect condition. 

Designed with a tone-chambered (partially hollowed) body, in mahogany, giving you the option for greater tonal sustain and feedback as you crank it up.  There's plenty of warmth, as always, with the humbuckers, but also plenty of punchy brightness at the bridge position. The Alnico-10s were designed to create a more vintage sound (hence their name today, Vintage Voiced Double Coil (VVDC)). So, there's loads of tonal range to be had out of this guitar.  With its narrow C-profile neck and low set-up, this is a faster guitar to play than you'd expect. And, of course, if recreating that slide sound is your thing, the relatively flat 15" radius gives you lots of scope for across the board slide playing.  Ultra-retro, build for the 21st century, a lovely versatile guitar.

"It sounds like I'm supposed to sound." In his own words, and with his own design, the signature model that brings together everything Johnny Marr in one guitar. 

Loads to love about this guitar. The tall, narrow, high-output pickups, surrounded by notched metal rings ( or “claws”) to reduce hum, custom-built Bare Knuckles in this case. The variety of tones that come with the four-way toggle switch and brightness switches. The humbucker effect of the serial setting for the pick-ups in the toggle fourth position. The design improvements that increase the robustness of the bridge and tremolo units. All that and a huge range of sonic possibilities. A guitar that is identical to the one he plays today (with the exception of the Johnny Marr signature decal - but if you are Johnny Marr, you probably don't need that namecheck).

A very special piece of indie rock history up for hire: The Vaccines' lead singer/guitarist Justin Hayward-Young's Danelectro Dead On 67. Complete with original strap, gaffer-taped in case of high-energy performance. This was the beloved companion for the bright, punchy guitar sound that has characterised The Vaccines since they first hit our ears late in 2010 with "If You Wanna" (a defiant earworm, if ever there was one).

This guitar has retro written all over it: 

- The "Totally Shielded" truss-rod cover, not just a logo, but a truth - not a touch of buzz or hum from the electrics. 

- The audio-style volume and tone knobs, in line with the original 67 models, and bringing a home-made to production feel to the set-up. 

- The characteristic lipstick single-coil pick-ups - as the story goes, back in the early days, Danelectro sourced a job-lot of lipstick tubes to house their pick-ups, and have stuck with that unique look ever since. 

- The homegrown bridge and vibrato system - the essence of simplicity, no elegance, but perfect for narrow pitch variation. 

- The back to the 60s look of the "mother-of-shower-curtain" pickguard. 

- And, of course, that wonderfully sculpted retro body profile. 

A timeless retro classic that's made its mark on stage, studio and video. Classic.

They don't come much more iconic than this. The original 52 Telecaster is an icon in its own right. 

With many variants, this guitar has never gone out of production since it was first introduced. From blues to country, from rock to indie, this guitar has made it into the hands of many of the greatest guitarists in the world. This particular model came out in 1993 and for that period was most recognisably in the hands of the fantastically versatile & innovative Graham Coxon of Blur. 

In near mint condition, this is an absolute beauty. Fully set-up and all the tone of a true classic Tele. A joy to play.

A truly iconic guitar, straight from The Smiths era. Whether it was the prominence Johnny Marr brought to it, a revitalised affection for all things 60s after a decade of denial, or a new generation brought up on the jagged electricity coming out of Paul Weller's Rickenbacker in The Jam, you'd be hard-pressed in the 80s to find a lyrically-poetic, guitar-based band without a Rickenbacker 330 somewhere in the mix. 

A classic narrow neck with 24 frets, that lovely Rickenbacker bridge assembly, the Rickenbacker Hi-gain pick-ups, the distinctive "R" tailpiece, and that Tone Mixer knob all combine to give this guitar a lot more versatility than the "jangly" sound it's know for. I was a late convert to Rickenbackers, but when I finally sat down with one, was amazed by the range of tones you could get out of this guitar. 

It's over 30 years old, so it has some of the edge chips to the paintwork that you'd expect. But that makes no difference at all to the sound and playability. With a professionally set-up, this takes you right back to those great 80s guitar bands. Or right up to date with bands like Blossoms leading the charge.
