The Canon XL2 succeeds the XL1S, which has garnered high praise in the market since its launch in July 2001. Inheriting the outstanding integrated design and innovative features of its predecessor, the XL2 boasts vastly improved image quality, functionality and operability to meet the performance needs of professional videographers.

It’s an old-school hand-cranked camera that uses standard rolls of 35mm film. The camera captures 144 individual frames onto each roll of film, producing a video that lasts 50-60 seconds.

The Pentax Auto 110 features fully automatic exposure, with no user-settable exposure compensation or adjustments. Metering is TTL (through-the-lens) and center-weighted. Unlike 35 mm SLRs, the system's lenses do not have a built-in iris to control the aperture. Instead, an iris is mounted inside the camera body, and functions as both an aperture control and a shutter.

While doing so, the adapter's optics help to maximize the connected lens's apparent angle of view while providing a 1-stop increase for the camera over the lens's aperture range.
If a lens intended for 35mm film or similarly-sized full-frame camera sensors is connected to a camera with a Micro Four Thirds-sized sensor, it would project an image larger than the Micro Four Thirds sensor was built to accept. Able to capture only the center portion of the projected image, the effective angle of view of the lens would be narrowed, creating an in-camera "crop factor."
