I've had this for a number of years and it has been one of the best utility compressors I've ever owned. I had a number of Dbx units such as the 160 and 166, as well as drawmers and art pro vla's but ended up getting rid of them all when I got this. 

It is a very musical compressor, yet is nicely transparent, depending how you use it. I often use it on the master bus to shave off any fast peaks, but also tend to use it in great amounts when smashing drums through it, which give really wonderful results. I've heard many people say these work best at mid to low levels of gain reduction which is partly true, but I do enjoy the sound they impart when really pushed. it has been noted to &quot;offer one of the best sounding and most versatile compressor/limiters ever to grace the racks of Abbey Road and other discerning studios.&quot; 

The de esser is a wonderful feature and is my first port of call when tending to vocal sibilance and has for many years been my vocal compressor, for it's transparent and balanced sound. The de esser is much more natural than any plug in I've ever used and it just makes vocals sound and sit where they should. 

The limiter on it has a variable switch allowing slow and fast release and sounds truly wonderful on bass and even the mix bus 

It is heralded highly for its sidechaining capabilities to which there seem truly no end.
