The Boonie hat was first introduced to the US armed forces during the Vietnam War when the Army Green Berets began wearing them along with Australian and Republic of Vietnam units. Boonie is the abbreviated form of boondocks the american slang for Tagalog Bundok. Similar in design to a bucket hat the boonie hat features a stiffer brim, the hat also features an adjustable chin strap with webbing to provide stability. Also often referred to...
as a Giggle hat they are perfect for hot and sunny or wet wet weather as the wide brim will keep rain or sun off of the users face. In 1968 the US army authorised the use of woodland ERDL material and later changed production to ripstop material which is what this hat is contracted of. The hat also features vent eyelet and a foliage ring which is designed to hold additional vegetation as camouflage. The design of the Boonie hat has changed little since its first us but the US military and is still in use today as an alternative to the Patrol Cap. Available in Black, BTP, Black BPT, UTP, DPM, Olive, and Smudge Kam across four sizes. Perfect for outdoor activities such as walking, fishing, hunting and shooting.
