These tubes are used between any Canon DSLR and lens to decrease the minimum focus distance. These work with Auto-Focus, as well as Flash metering (TTL: Through The Lens) which makes macro photography and exposure balance a breeze!

IT comes in 3 sections (13mm, 21mm, and 31 mm) that can be used individually, or in carious combinations depending on what focus distance and magnification you desire. 

These tubes do not contain any glass elements, so they do not impact lens clarity in any way.
