I've recently used this top map of the on and off-street parking bays for a planning application. Previously used to generate floor plans. The process is simple you select the type of measurement through the App. Which shows you an example of how to measure. Then you place the corner with the light to the start point....

and you will hear a series of beeps on the app which let you know when to start and stop. the main thing is to be gentle when placing the device. The smoother the transition from point to point the more accurate the measurement will be.
