I use this mic for professional vocal recordings and it does NOT disappoint - it sounds like it costs several thousand pounds! ;)


The Origin is a high performance cardioid condener microphone using a 1" gold evaporated capsule. It's a workhorse mic that you could stick in front of most instruments, but particularly excells on acoustic guitar and vocals. It's built with some of the best components that you find in expensive boutique microphones.

The result is a direct, smooth and intimate sound that's the perfect recipe for a natural and transparent recording.


This mic was designed as modern music and engineering's response to the famous Beyerdynamic vocal mic of the late 60s- the m500 (famous for being Sinatra's mic of choice for some time). It's unusual for a ribbon in that it has an extended high frequency response- however it's extended in a way that is lovely and smooth and detailed just like a ribbon should be. The response helps vocals cut through and sit really nicely in a modern mix with only a little EQ- where an older ribbon might need some more encouragement. It's also far more sensitive than most passive ribbon mics, and has a lower noise floor (more perks of modern engineering).

I also love it on strings and as a mono/central overhead for the smooth detail across the spectrum.

It's got fantastic off axis and feedback rejection for use in a live/noisy situation.

I love this microphone. Never seen anything like it. Picked it up from Stewart at Xaudia after he had refurbished it with an XLR connection and new ribbon. 1979!

It sounds absolutely wonderful on vocals - imparts a  rich, silky texture pre-eq. However it's also great on guitar cabs, horns and cellos. I've used it a good amount in live situations and it's proven fantastic at rejecting off axis spill and resisting feedback on stage, even with a quiet vocalist.

NTG4 is the little brother of the industry standard shotgun mic. It's a decent budget option for recording dialogue or isolating parts of an ensemble due to its off-axis rejection.

NTG3 is the industry standard shotgun mic (alongside the Sennheiser 416 of course) for recording dialogue on location. It is extremely quiet, and has excellent off-axis rejection. It features a warmer frequency response than any shotgun I've heard, allowing more realistic speech recording from greater distances whilst retaining intelligibility in the mids. It also makes a great directional mic in musical applications for recording individuals in an ensemble with the potential for lots of spill.

Very interesting and unique ribbon mic. It has two ribbons suspended in an internal shock mount, and requires phantom power for that transformer in the base. It has more of an extended high frequency response than most ribbons, but still has that lovely ribbon warmth and softness. Great for vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, and anything that you blow through! 

Don't drop it and don't hot-swap it!
