X/Y recording allows you to cover a wide area yet still capture sound sources in the center with clarity and definition, making it ideal for all types of live stereo recording. The XYH-5 X/Y microphone capsule included with the H5 provides two matched unidirectional condenser microphones set at a 90 degree angle. These are housed within an advanced shockmount that employs rugged external mic wires and rubberized material to isolate the unit from the H5 body and thus minimize vibration and handling noise.  The design of the XYH-5 also allows the H5 to handle louder sounds than any other Handy Recorder model: 140 dB SPL, to be precise—equivalent to the sound of a jet aircraft from less than 200 feet away—enabling you to capture sounds louder, closer, and cleaner than you ever could before.

The compact and portable H5 gives you everything you need to create professional quality audio. It comes with a detachable stereo X/Y microphone and utilises a system of interchangeable input capsules that allow you to choose the best mic for every situation.

The Zoom H5 recorder is perfect for high quality documentary or corporate video interviews. The kit was bought as new in June 2020.

HyperDeck Studio is a broadcast HD based solid state deck that includes 3G-SDI and HDMI connections so you can work in all SD and HD formats up to 1080p30. You get familiar VTR style controls so it’s just like using a traditional broadcast deck, along with compressed or uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2 broadcast quality recording. The low cost makes it easy to install multiple units when you need ISO recorders, or are doing long form logging or mastering for SD and HD.

The H4n provides two different ways of recording great-sounding stereo. The X/Y technique is an excellent way to cover a wide area while still capturing sound sources in the center with clarity and definition, making it ideal for all types of live stereo recording.

The H4n's built-in X/Y microphone provides two matched unidirectional microphones. The angle of the two can easily be changed from 90 degrees for a tightly focused stereo image to 120 degrees for a wider image. (US Patent 8184815)

The H4n also provides an onboard MS decoder so you can do MS ("Mid-Side") recording using external microphones. This is an incredible technique that allows you to adjust the width of the stereo image after it has been recorded, while maintaining perfect mono compatibility, making it especially useful for film, video and television projects.
