This is a reasonable sized-box for small-medium sized cars.  You can easily fit a couple of cycle carriers on the roof alongside and due to the rear-opening, they wont interfere with access to the box.

The rear opening means its secure against the wind, and can be mounted for access on either side of your car.

You can fit a huge amount of luggage in it and it's very sturdy. I've taken it on several very long trips, each of over 2000km across Europe, at sustained speeds of up to 95mph / 150kmh in Germany without any issues. Even at this speed it's quiet and doesn't affect handling of the car. 

As you can see from the pictures, it is very large, and easily fits full length skis and boots, large suitcases, and 9 year old boys!

This is a great little tent.  It takes 10 minutes to erect,  and its very sturdy and waterproof, as tested in an overnight storm, where we slept very well and woke up dry! Roof bars for cars without factory fitted roof-rails.  They work on most small-medium vehicles, and attach using the door sills. I recommend you come round and try them before you need them.  I will be happy to refund you if they do not fit!
