Freediving is also called "breath-hold" or "apnea" diving. It ranges from athletes trying to dive ever-deeper on one breath of air to recreational snorkelers diving down to ten to 15 feet before returning to the surface. Because time is so important, freediving masks are generally small and low volume (little distance between your face and the mask). This configuration allows the least drag in the water.
