Now SWR has made their signature sound available in a mid-sized combo amp, the Workingman's 15. It combines power, portability and great tone in a single easy-to-move cabinet. At less than 28" high and 21" wide, the Workingman's 15 passes the "hatchback test" with flying colors. Plus, its 70-lb. weight is easily handled by the built-in casters that make moving the Workingman's 15 a tilt-and-roll operation. Plenty of power feeding custom-designed 15" driver and piezo tweeter With 160 watts RMS as stand-alone combo and 200 watts RMS into 4 ohms (with an 8 ohm extension speaker), the Workingman's 15 can punch through even loud drummers to deliver round bass tones even at a distance. The custom-designed 15" low frequency driver is optimized for maximum bass output, especially when used with the Aural Expander (read on!), and the Le-Son TLX-1 piezo tweeter adds support in the mids and high mids. The front slot-ported enclosure makes the most of the compact cabinet's output. If you want even more power, add an extension speaker such as a Workingman's 1x15T or a Big Bertha. Active and Passive inputs, with lots of output options Whether your bass has active or passive electronics the Workingman's 15 can handle it. Two separate and independent input jacks are provided so that the best signal-to-noise ratio can be obtained without overloading the preamp section. The Passive input has over twice the gain than that of the Active input. Both inputs can be used simultaneously without affecting the volume or tone of the other. A great alternative use of these inputs would be to plug your bass into the Passive input and practice along with a drum machine by plugging it into the Active input. The Workingman's 15 also gives you plenty of output options. Besides the internal connection to the speakers, a balanced XLR output is provided, with no front panel controls affecting its signal. Tone and output level are controlled only by the instrument plugged into one of the input jacks. Run an XLR cable from the balanced output to a tape machine, mixing console, etc. This output is also suitable for sending a signal to a house mixer in live situations. The To Tuner send jack allows you to connect your instrument tuner to the Workingman's 15 without having to unplug and go back and forth from amp to tuner to amp. An extension speaker jack makes adding speaker cabinets to your rig easy, and a sidechain effects loop allows connection of outboard effects processors. To top it off, the Workingman's 15 includes a headphone jack to let you practice without disturbing your neighbors. 3-band tone controls, plus a built-in limiter Sculpting your own personal sound is important, and the Workingman's 15 offers a 3-band set of level controls. The Bass and Treble controls are centered around 80Hz (Bass) and 5kHz (Treble), and each can cut or boost its band a maximum of 15dB. The Mid Range controls comprise a level control and a frequency control knob. A "center click" position defeats each control's function. The Workingman's 15 Limiter circuit is a soft-knee type limiter that prevents distortion of attack transients or peaks. The Limiter can be used as an effect and is also helpful in preventing speaker damage. Unique Aural Enhancer control A big part of the Workingman's 15 "sound" is the Aural Enhancer circuit. The Aural Enhancer was developed to bring out the fundamental low notes of the bass, reduce certain frequencies that can "mask" fundamentals, and enhance the high-end transients. The effect becomes more pronounced as the control is turned up. The result is a more transparent sound. Listening to a passive bass on the Workingman's 15 with the control set all the way down, and then turning it all the way up, can be likened to listening to the bass suddenly become "active."
